The ATO has recently announced another highly-effective, sophisticated email scam doing the rounds, with fake myGov tax refund emails being sent from fake myGov email addresses. If you receive an email like this example from the ATO, do not click anywhere on the email or link, simply send it to junk and report it.

The ATO doesn’t have an online ‘tax refund’ form, and you should always manage your myGov affairs directly through the myGov secure account.

It’s a great reminder for all individuals and business owners to be particularly wary when opening emails and providing personal details online. Plus, these scams should trigger you to review your business practices and assess whether there are any gaps in your IT security processes.
